Description

This is a very bright and peaceful scene. The towering Mt. Fuji is depicted with quite steep slopes, in three colors. In this magnificent landscape, people and horses can be seen in very small size; but even so, they are full of detail. Hokusai didn't cut corners at all.

While climbing the steep hill, the two travelers are looking at the beautiful mountain. By carefully observing, one would be amazed at how Hokusai skillfully depicted their feet; they are carefully climbing the steep surface with firm steps. At the base of the hill on the left, the man carrying the load on his shoulder is looking back and talking to the other man, while two horses with heavy loads are following behind.

The white clouds between Fuji and the hill indicate the presence of a deep valley.
