Description

Senju was one of a main post station in the area, but this image does not focus on the busy center, instead, it describes the quiet riverside. On the left, two men appear to be enjoying fishing, while a man guiding a horse admires the view of Mount Fuji.

To the right, the wooden beams are the part of water sluice gate, with Mount Fuji visible between them. Although the beams obstruct the view of Fuji, they contribute to an attractive composition.

An interesting detail is about the object tied to the rope guiding the horse, often mistaken for a turtle. In reality, it resembles a turtle but is not. In the old days, even horses wore straw shoes, and this object is actually a spare shoe for the horse. A closer examination reveals that the horse is wearing straw shoes.

The basket carried by the horse contains Senju Negi (Japanese leek), well known for its delicious flavor even today.
