Description
Hokusai's unique bold composition is fully actualized in this image. Two pine trees spreading in a V-shape are located in the center with a small shrine-like building on the same small outcrop that sticks into the lake. Mt. Fuji is seen faraway, playing only a small part in the image.
Suwako is a large lake in Nagano prefecture. In this scene, no human or any creature appears; instead, a boat is floating on the still lake. A very subtle gradation of light blue applied from the bottom adds depth to the perspective.
