Description

This is the rooftop balcony of a temple, well known as a place for people to enjoy a nice view of Mt. Fuji. There was a spiral staircase in the building in which more than 500 statues of the Goddess Kannon were placed. While climbing the steps, people worshipped at each statue, asking for blessings.

Here, people finally arrived at the balcony, after climbing up the long staircase . Hokusai skillfully depicted the people relaxing and enjoying the view of Mt. Fuji. As he drew people mostly from the back, we feel as though we are part of the group.
