Description

The direct translation of the name Shichirigahama is 'Seven-ri shore', indicating the length of the coastline; 'ri' is an old unit of measurement, with 1 ri being about 4 kilometers.

As many cumulonimbus clouds appear and the leaves are dark in color, the season would be summer. In the foreground, a sandy hill is visible, leading us towards the coast beyond, which stretches out toward the sea.

This is a very serene view with no people in sight. Nor did Hokusai draw any waves in the sea; instead a very delicate light blue is applied with smooth gradations. It is a very calm and peaceful scene.
