Description
This is a small village between Ishibe and Kusatsu, beside the Me river.
The teahouse is named Iseya, as indicated on the shop curtain. It was famous for Na-meshi (rice cooked with greens) and Dengaku Tofu (tofu coated with miso). Travelers must have looked forward to reaching this teahouse and enjoying these tasty foods.
In the foreground a group of people are dancing. They are presumably on a pilgrimage to the Ise shrine and performing Ise-dance, which became popular in the days.
Hiroshige depicted people and houses in the foreground clearly while the distant view, mountains and cloud, is blurred with mist.
