Description
Between Miya and Kuwana stations, it was a long distance walk, with several rivers to cross, if travelers went by foot. Therefore many people chose to use sailing boats crossing Ise Bay, a journey of about 4 hours. This short-cut was known as ’Shichi-ri no Watashi’ meaning seven-ri (about 28km) crossing.
Towering over the stone wall is Kuwana Castle, and in the foreground two sailing boats are seen arriving at Kuwana port. Their canvas sails are being lowered and people can be seen jam-packed on board. It must have been a challenging 4 hour-trip in that situation.
We wonder why nearby waves look quite rough while distant sea appears serene. Some travelers must have suffered from seasickness!
