This is an early morning scene covered with heavy mist. Hiroshige focused on the group of people at the center - supposed to be heading to Hakone - and the trees on the right. Even the people and houses quite a short distance from the center are blurred through the thick curtain of mist.

The contrast between clearly depicted parts and the misty area is very nicely expressed making this image unique and attractive.
