Description
The long bridge (Yoshida-Ohashi) seen on the left was built over the Toyo river. In Tokugawa era building bridges were generally forbidden to protect Edo, and this is one of a few long bridges that were allowed at the time. The row of buildings seen across the bridge is Yoshida station.
The building seen on the right is Yoshida castle, which is under repair. In old days there were no iron scaffoldings, so other materials must have been used, which would have been fastened with ropes.
The worker holding the pole with his hand and foot doesn’t use any safety line and yet seems to be able to enjoy the magnificent view.
