Description
This very eccentric mountains is Fudesute-yama, literally translated as ‘throw away the brush mountain.’ There is a legend that a famous artist, Motonobu Kano, threw away his brush because this mountain was simply too beautiful for him to draw.
Hiroshige bravely challenged drawing this intricately shaped mountains by using delicate bokashi gradation techniques.
This location is also well-known for its foggy and misty weather, which Hiroshige skillfully depicts with a greenish blue gradation.
On the right is a teahouse where many travelers are resting and enjoying the magnificent view. Soon after passing this place, the steep slope of Suzuka pass awaited the travelers. It was necessary for them to have a full rest here.
