Description
This area was famous for its rainy weather and was also known for producing lumber and green tea.
On a rainy day in spring, a daimyo procession is crossing a bridge built over the Tamura river. In this rainy day, the keyari - long and feathered ornamental spears - are protected with cloth covers. Some of the walkers are bending their heads for protection from the rain.
The rainfall is uneven, and the water level in the river is rising and flowing rapidly. Hiroshige skillfully depicted this scene with vigorous lines and bokashi gradations.
After overcoming the challenging Suzuka pass, yet another hard journey awaits the procession.
