Description
One of the enjoyments for travelers in old days was eating local specialty foods.
Hiroshige introduced here one of those dishes by drawing the teahouse providing Tororojiru - a dish made of wild yam (Jinenjyo). The two men look to be enjoying the dish while a woman with her baby on her back is serving.
On the left, there is a man carrying a long pole which is used to dig and support the long wild yam. The soil in this area is said to be suitable for this plant.
This is a beautiful sunset scene but I wonder if the two travelers can reach the next station before dark!
