Description
Leaving Yui station people had to pass the Satta Pass which was famous for its steepness. The narrow mountain pass made along the precipitous cliff was dangerous, and at other parts of the road, some people were swallowed up by high waves.
Although this was one of the most dangerous spots of the Tokaido, people were able to enjoy the magnificent view along the way - the travelers in this image seem to have stopped walking and enjoy the breathtaking view!
Hiroshige arranged beautiful Mt. Fuji in the center, and the sailing boats in Suruga Bay keep good balance with the steep cliff on the left.
