Description

Everything - trees, land, houses, stone walls - is covered with snow but the sub-title of the image ('yuki-bare' in the vermilion cartouche) tells us that this is a bright sunny day. A long daimyo procession is climbing up the steep slope, with a barely visible horse carrying heavy loads.

Towering at the top of the slope is the turret of Kameyama castle. The wooden fence beside the stone wall is Kyo-guchi gate leading to Kameyama station.

The beautiful red glow is seen beyond the hills on the left although much is blocked by high mountains. The group of houses seen at the lower left is Nomura village.

Most of the image is expressed by achromatic color - gray, black and white. However, a few colors - used only for the sky and people in the procession - work as very effective accents.
