Description
The signature reads Chobunsai Eishi (鳥文斎栄之, 1756–1829), a Japanese painter and ukiyo-e artist. He was born into a high-ranking samurai family and depicted many elegant ladies of the upper class. This lady is one such and appears to be in the middle of writing a long letter. In front of her, there are some ceremonial items unknown to us.
