This is an adaptation of a nishiki-e of a crane, waves and the rising sun by Isoda Koryûsai (1735–1790). The crane and the rising sun are both auspicious images, suggesting good fortune (especially for the new year). The print looks very similar to the original Edo period print held by the MFA, but has the addition of beautiful karazuri blind embossing to the wings of the crane.
