Description

The beautiful woman Tokonatsu stands beneath an umbrella, wearing a head covering and geta, her kimono decorated with fans. This print features onnagata actor Nakamura Sen'ya from Shijô in Kyoto as Higuchi Jirō's wife Tokonatsu. The scene is from the play Mitsudomoe Katoku-biraki (三巴家督開) performed at the Nakamura theatre in 1716. While the original print was a hand-coloured tan-e (orange print), this reproduction is made as a Nishiki-e using multiple color blocks.
