Description

The artist is Hiroshige and this image is from the series "Edomurasaki Meisho Genji," which made parodies of chapters from the Tale of Genji.

This place, Takanawa, thrived as the gateway to Edo, known as Takanawa Ōkido, during the Edo period, and this place featured in many woodblock prints at the time.

The patterns of the lanterns are from Genji-kō (源氏香), an incense-comparing the game with each of the 52 patterns named after a chapter of the Tale of Genji.
