Description

Following the previous image, the artist is also Enkyo, but the featured character is Umeomaru (梅王丸) from the story "Sugawara Denju Tenaraikagami" (菅原伝授手習鑑).

The actor is Ichikawa Yaozo III (三代目市川八百蔵); this is why the letter '八' is shown in the middle of the Ichikawa crest, three squares, on his clothes.

The kimono is patterned with many plum flowers because the name of the role includes the letter '梅' which means plum. Many areas of the print have vivid embossing; this is done by the 'kime dashi' technique, where the paper is pushed forward from the reverse side.
