Description

The Japanese characters at the upper center are read "Matsubaya-nai Utahime Kanomo Konomo 松葉屋内 歌姫 かのも このも"; Utahime would be the courtesan on the right, and Matsubaya is the name of her house. The two young 'kamuro' attendants are named as Kanomo and Konomo.

When Kiyonaga was active, multicolor printing had become a thriving technique, and he fully utilized the possibilities of the process to depict many beauties.
