Description

The scene depicts a woman bathing, washing her neck with a tenugui (Japanese towel). A wooden tub filled with water is placed in front of her, allowing her to rinse the tenugui. Although she is half-naked, the overall impression of the image is very elegant, without any sense of indecency.

Combs and a small brush are placed beside the tub, presumably removed from her hair.

A kimono with lattice pattern hangs over a partition, likely to be worn after the bath.

The artist is Tamagawa Shucho (active about 1790~1803), known for his Nishiki-e and illustrations.
