Description

Two ladies, with a child between them, are walking in a relaxed mood. In the distance, a temple and a pagoda are visible, presumably Sensoji in Asakusa. The flock of birds flying in the sky indicates that it is early evening.

Hosoda Eishi 細田栄之 (1756–1829) skillfully depicted the three figures with great appeal. The child's kimono features a Kasuri pattern with a charming obi sash. The woman on the left wears an orange striped kimono paired with an obi belt decorated with a bird pattern, while the lady on the right wears a gray kimono with a red obi belt that harmonizes well with the overall color scheme.

The choices of kimono and matching obi belts by these ladies likely set a trend among women of that era.
