Description

In the pitch-dark night, a man who appears to be a samurai carries a young lady on his back, while walking barefoot through the river.

Judging from her clothes, she seems to be a town girl, and he appears to be speaking to her with care. The lady's hands firmly grasp the man's shoulders. Where are they going?

The two figures emerge from the deep darkness beneath the willow tree, and the kimono patterns are beautifully printed. Kiyonaga has depicted a very captivating scene.

There is a similar image by Harunobu titled "Osen's Elopement お仙の駆け落ち" but we are unsure what this particular image represents. Any suggestions are welcome.
