Description

The artist is Chobunsai Eishi 鳥文斎栄之 (1756−1829), and the title of this print is Akashi Shugetsu 明石秋月 (autumn moon in Akashi), part of the series Ukiyo Genji Hakkei 浮世源氏八景, eight views of Ukiyo Genji.

The lady on the left appears to be viewing the moon in the cartouche. Eishi depicted two beautiful women so delicately that the kimono and obi patterns appear realistic and gorgeous.

The tray in the lower left, filled with water, contains fresh leaves of Kinuito-so 絹糸草; people enjoyed the fresh green to feel the coolness, similar to enjoy the sound of Furin 風鈴 (wind bells) in summer.
