Description

In Japan, March the third is the Doll Festival, which celebrates female children, and prays for their health and happiness.

The artist is Isoda Koryusai 磯田湖竜斎. He depicted a very humorous scene: a man is trying to steal the sweets decorated for the girl's festival while a woman scolds him by pulling his clothes. By observing these two people, we can easily image what they are saying!

In the left corner, the bottom drawer is visibly pulled forward, indicating that they are efficiently utilizing the chest of drawers to display items.

In the lower right, decorations made of shells are seen, presumably made by the woman wrapping them with fancy cloth.
