Description

A beautiful courtesan is reading a letter. The artist is Katsukawa Shunsen (勝川春扇, 1762-1830), who later became 'Shunko the Second' (2代目春好).

The letters in the upper right are read "Afugiya (Ogiya) Hanaogi (あふきや 花扇)".

Though not many of his works depicting beauties still exist, it is evident that he had his own style of portraying faces. The mild yet still gorgeous color combinations are very attractive, and her relaxed mood is well expressed.
