Description

A woman is sitting at the kotatsu, a table with a heat source underneath and covered with a thick cloth, and reading a letter, while a man is sneaking under the kotatsu cover and also reading the same letter. This very much seems like a parody of a scene in the famous Chushingura (47 Ronin), where a long letter is secretly read by an onlooker under a balcony ... No perspective is expressed in the image, but Harunobu depicted in the delicate and beautiful kimono pattern very nicely, and the kotatsu cover's thickness is well expressed. Most patterns are outlined by black key lines, but some patterns have no borderlines, such as the wallpaper, the woman's obi belt, the shibori (tie dyed) pattern of the kimono, and the kotatsu cover cloth. They appear very natural and attractive.

Even inside the house must be very cold because we see the snow through the window without glass!
