Description

This is a scene from the Kabuki play titled "Kataki-uchi Noriai Hanashi 敵討乗合話," and the artist is Sharaku. Below the artist's name, there is a mark of the publisher, Tsutaya.

The actor on the right is Nakajima Wadaemon (中島和田右衛門), and the one on the left is Nakamura Korezo (中村此蔵). Their family crests are depicted on their kimonos.

The contrasts between the two characters are depicted very well – the narrow and round shapes of their faces and eyes, the strongly angled eyebrows, and the sharp and round nose shapes.

While these two roles are not the main characters of the play, Sharaku focused on each person and succeeded in depicting the features of each character very well.
