Description
This is from Hokusai’s ‘One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji.’
The original title is ‘Noroshi no Fuji’ translated as ‘Fuji with a Signal Fire.’ Presumably, the kite-like object over Fuji is likened to a signal fire.
The main subject is obviously the boat; it has landed, and the bottom is being burned by the fishermen in order to remove unwanted marine growths.
At the lower left, people are seen busily working, and the cone-shape objects at the lower right and upper left are fishing nets being dried.
The few houses built at the edge of the cliff look scary; Hokusai must have exaggerated the view.
In the distance, we see a beautiful snow-covered Mt. Fuji.
