Description

This is a piece from the famous ‘Hokusai Manga’. He also drew Mt. Fuji from the same location in the ’36 views of Mr. Fuji’, which is more widely known than this work.

Here we see a very interesting design; the shape of Mt. Fuji is rugged and the shape of clouds are strange and unrealistic. Adding to this dynamic scene are two small figures in the lower right corner; a cow carrying a large load of firewood, with a person pulling it. The pine trees in the left foreground effectively balance the entire composition.

The impression of this colored version is quite different from the original work, which used only two subtle colors: black and light vermilion.
