Description

This is from Hokusai’s famous ‘One Hundred views of Mt. Fuji.’

Did he want to cover his favorite Fuji with the huge fish net? Of course not! He did an experiment to express the beautiful shape through the fine net by fully using woodblock print techniques; it would be almost impossible to draw this as a hand-painting.

I wonder if the fisherman in the foreground feels as though he captured the mountain with his net, or does he simply enjoy looking at it through the net?

Overall, this is a very attractive composition; in the foreground, green plants; as the eyes move up, a boat. Then the huge fishing net covering most of the central area, showing Mt. Fuji through it, and then a beautiful blue sky with a bird as an accent.
