Description

This is an image originally from Hokusai's masterwork ‘One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji’.

Many willows are planted on either side of the road, and Mt. Fuji is visible through those trees. In the lower center, there is a stone signpost at the junction, which must have been very important for travelers.

Here many people are depicted, some locals and others travelers. Most travelers seem to be enjoying the view of Mt. Fuji. In the upper far right, there is a man wearing straw hat, two seated men, a man on the horse back and another man near the sign post.

During the long journey on foot, the beautiful view of this magnificent mountain must have comforted people’s hearts.

An interesting aspect is that local people don’t seem interested in the mountain; even the magnificent Mt. Fuji must be a part of their daily routine.

In the lower right corner, there is a pond with many birds, and delicate patterns and gradation are applied for the blue water. This feature seems to be very important for balancing the overall composition.
