Description
This is from the same series, Five Shaded Ink in the Northern Quarter, as previous image. Originally, this series had different tones of yellow backgrounds, but this edition's background uses other coloring.
A Geisha differs from a courtesan; she is a professional entertainer who has high skills in various arts, such as dancing and playing the shamisen. In Yoshiwara, these women also played an important role in welcoming and entertaining customers.
Her hairstyle does not appear much different from that of a courtesan, but her outfit is relatively simple. The colors and patterns of her kimono are plain, and her obi sash is not decorative at all.
