Description

Utamaro took the theme from a famous story by Ihara Saikaku (1642–1693). Osan, one of the story's main characters, is the wife of Mohei (茂兵衛) and is described as an astonishingly beautiful woman.

The print is very nicely made, especially the delicate hairlines at her forehead and nape, which are incredibly fine and appear very natural. Her pose, as she holds the kimono collar, is slightly coquettish and attractive.
