Description

Three court ladies in Heian style dress write poems on tanzaku in this print by Tomioka Eisen. The deep red "frame" around them is a particularly eye-catching feature. The kuchi-e appeared in the second volume of Nihon Joreishiki Taizen (“Collection of Japanese Women’s Etiquette”, 日本女礼式大全) by Tsuboya Zenshiro, published in Meiji 30 (1897).
