Description
A mysterious woman in extravagant clothing hurries across a bridge in the dead of night, clutching a blue scarf around her face. She seems to be fleeing from something, and, if it wasn't for the brightly coloured kimono, the print would paint a frightening scene. The bokashi gradation and faint pattern on the scarf show the precision of the printer and carver. The "sheen" that can be seen on the black lapel to suggest a silk fabric similarly shows the attention to detail that has been paid in the production of this kuchi-e.
This print by Takeuchi Keishū appeared in volume 2, issue 7, of Bungei Kurabu, published in Meiji 29 (1896).
