Description
An elegant woman looks towards an inset poem in this work by Toshikata. A faint smile dances on her lips; she is no doubt pleased with her composition or calligraphy. Nunome-zuri (a technique in which fabric is glued to a woodblock and blind-embossed to replicate the pattern on the print) has been used on the white background behind the woman, and delicate kara-zuri blind-embossing in the shape of ripples can be seen at the bottom of the poem. The silhouette of the pink flowering branches has been cleverly printed onto the poem paper, giving the impression that it is very thin. At the moment we are not sure which publication this work comes from, although it seems highly probable that it was published in an issue of the Bungei Kurabu literary magazine.
This particular print was featured in one of the 'David's Choice' YouTube videos in April of 2017.
