Description
A beautiful woman glances over her shoulder while arranging a hairpin in this kuchi-e. The dramatic dark orange pigment of the woman's under-kimono is a highlight of the print, as is the pattern of the purple kimono in the foreground, possibly featuring a carp. The frontispiece appeared in volume 19, issue 3 of Bungei Kurabu, published in Taishō 2(1913).
The artist of this print, Yamanaka Kodō (1869-1945), was a student of the famous artist Tsukiyoka Yoshitoshi and was well-known for his kuchi-e prints of beautiful women and landscapes.
