Description
This print is also known in English as "Woman with a Veil" and is from an untitled series of beauties compared to flowers by Chōkōsai Eishō. Eishō was a student of Japanese ukiyo-e artist Chōbunsai Eishi and a rival of Utamaro. The woman in this picture is compared to a peony, as the panel in the upper-right suggests, and seems to be smiling at someone or something out of frame. Some have pointed out that the "veil" may in fact be a kind of mosquito net for the neck and head.
