A woman in an elaborate kimono admires the autumn maple leaves while smoking a pipe in this print by Shigenaga. The woman, probably a courtesan, is attended by her child assistant, who holds a box (possibly for tobacco) up to her. The print is an urushi-e, an image featuring a hand-applied mixture of glue and black pigment to look like lacquer, as we can tell from the thick texture of the woman's outer kimono.

This reproduction is a sumizuri-e (ukiyoe printed with black pigment) with fudezaishiki (hand colouring by brush).
