Description
One courtesan tunes her shamisen while another looks up at her, holding a songbook, ready to sing. This print is an o-ban nishiki-e ("large size brocade print"), also known as an o-nishiki. Very light bokashi gradation can be seen at the edges of the women's kimono, mimicking the fading of older ukiyo-e that results from prolonged exposure to light.
