Description
Moronobu presents a samurai and a boy passing through a gate to enter a temple in this print. Cherry blossoms are visible in the foreground, and another samurai looks on.
This reproduction may be of a print from Monorobu's Ueno Hanami no Tei (上野花見の躰, "Flower Viewing at Ueno") series from the 1680s, in which case it probably depicts Niōmon Gate at Kan’eiji Temple. All prints in the series were sumizuri-e (墨摺絵), ukiyoe printed with black pigment alone.
