This print depicts actor Ichikawa Danjûrô IX as Yamanoue Gennaizaemon, with an unknown actor as Suzuka no Ôji, in the play Zobiki ("Pulling the Elephant"). The image is based on this ukiyo-e, the eleventh print of the "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays" (Kabuki jûhachiban) series published by Hasegawa Sumi in the Meiji period.
