This print depicts actor Ichikawa Danjûrô IX as Narukami Shônin and an unknown actor as Taema-hime in the play Narukami. The image is based on this ukiyo-e, the third print of the "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays" (Kabuki jûhachiban) series published by Hasegawa Sumi in the Meiji period.
