This print depicts actor Ichikawa Danjûrô IX as Soga Gorô Tokimune in the play Yanone ("Sharpening the Arrow"). The image is based on this ukiyo-e, the second print of the "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays" (Kabuki jûhachiban) series published by Hasegawa Sumi in the Meiji period.
