This print depicts actor Ichikawa Danjûrô IX as Kakoyo Akaemon, with Ichikawa Danjûrô VII as Hakuen VII, in the play Nanatsumen ("Seven Masks"). The image is based on this ukiyo-e, the sixth print of the "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays" (Kabuki jûhachiban) series published by Hasegawa Sumi in the Meiji period.
