Description
The character Kanawa Gorō (disguised as Fukashichi the fisherman) prepares to stab Omiwa, the daughter of a sake seller, in this scene from a subplot in Act IV of Imoseyama Onna Teikin ("Mt. Imo and Mt. Se: A Tale of Womanly Virtue"). The illustration by Shoshu depicts a spool of thread, the end of which Omiwa had attached to Kamatari, a man who she had fallen in love with, and followed. The actor depicted is unknown.
