In this print we have onnagata actor Utaemon as Princess Yaegaki (八重垣姫), the heroine of the kabuki play "The Twenty-Four Japanese Examples of Filial Piety" (Honcho Nijushiko). The scene depicted is the well-known Jusshuko (or "Incense Jusshuko at Kenshin's Mansion") scene, the penultimate scene of act IV. The detailed headpiece, colourful kimono pattern, blind-embossed collar, and carefully-carved hairline are highlights of the print.
