Description
The Japanese name of the bird - ‘Mamemawashi’ (rolling beans) - derives from this bird’s method of cracking beans in its beak. The golden yellow color of the beak is a prime characteristic of this bird and is well captured in the image.
As the tone of the overall image is quite dark - gray and green - the yellow beak of the ‘mamemawashi' and the red head of the woodpecker contribute a nice accent.
This woodpecker doesn’t look happy being interrupted its work by the ‘mamemawashi'.
