Description
Two mallards and a beady-eyed kingfisher share a riverside roost in this Utamaro print. The larger mallard doesn't seem too fussed about sharing the area, but the other is indignant, and tries to frighten the kingfisher into leaving with a loud call. Once again, the detailed hues and patterns used for the birds' feathers show the skill of the designer, carver, and printer.
